Edible Gardening at the Sierra Madre Public Library

Join friends and neighbors for “Edible Gardening,” Saturday, June 29 at 10:00 a.m. at the Sierra Madre Public Library, hosted by noted horticulturist John Lyons.

Edible Gardening is part of “Reading is So Delicious!” the Sierra Madre Public Library’s Summer Reading Program and is one of many programs on tap this summer at the Library.

In 2006 Lyons began edible landscaping with The Woven Garden, and designs, installs and maintains edible landscapes, orchards and CA native gardens. He teaches at the LA Arboretum and Descanso Gardens. Lyons has also developed a permaculture-oriented garden at his home and worked on a grey water swale garden in Altadena that was featured in the LA Times.

Born and raised on a farm in western Ireland, Lyons trained in Hotel Management there, then moved to the U.S. and founded a contemporary Irish theater company in New York. Lyons re-located to Los Angeles and opened an agency representing actors. At all points and places along this journey, he gardened until his passion became his new career.
