Sierra Madre, CA. May 21, 2014 – We are just one week away from the Mount Wilson Trail Race…you should be tapering by now, with maybe just one last run up the trail this week. As you do it, make sure you are hydrated, going into Saturday. Projections are for a race day temperature of 87; it won’t be quite that hot in the morning, but make sure you plan for the heat.
Pasta Feed Dinner – Friday, May 23 starting at 5:30pm
We are excited that Stonefire Grill has come aboard as the official MWTR Pasta Dinner sponsor this year. Thanks to Store Manager Trent Hilton, who will be running the race this year, we will have fresh salad, pasta and bread from Stonefire Grill at the dinner on Friday, May 23. This is a chance for you to pick up your race number and T-shirt early and do some yummy carb loading. The dinner, which is open to participants, family and the general public, will be held in Kersting Court from 5:30P to 7:00P. The price will be $7.50 per person, with proceeds given to Sierra Madre Search & Rescue. And bring some money to buy MWTR souvenirs, which will be available at the dinner.
On Friday night, you can win some cool stuff by participating in the raffle, a new component to the dinner this year. The raffle is open to all and tickets will be sold for $1 apiece or 6 for $5. Great prizes await including two comp entries into the 2014 Mt. Baldy Run 2 The Top race on Labor Day weekend, admission passes to Santa Anita Park, gift certificates to restaurants, and passes to local attractions. Proceeds benefit Sierra Madre Search and Rescue.
Once again, we will be offering a gear check for your belongings and any pre-race/post-race clothing while you run the race. The lovely ladies from Sierra Madre Civic Club will be safeguarding your gear, but it will be in a different location: at the west end of Kersting Court, just west of the beer garden.
Please use the bag you received when you picked up your bib at check-in or provide your own bag. Attach your gear tag with name and bib # to your gear bag before you leave it with the Gear Check crew. After the race, reclaim your checked bag at the designated Gear Check area.
Please note: Do NOT leave valuables, cash or jewelry in your gear bag. The event is not responsible for any lost items. Gear bags must be claimed before close of the race festivities on race day.
Volunteers Still Needed on Race Day
If you are not running this year or know of someone who wants to get involved with the race, we still need some help in setting up Kersting Court on Saturday morning. Many of our committee members who are planning to run the race will be out there at 4:00A or 5:00A to drag stuff around and assist with whatever needs to be done. We would love your help, starting at 5:00A and continuing until the time we break down Kersting Court at noon.
Additionally, we need help posting No Parking Signs on Monday, May 19 from 5:00-7:00pm. The more we have the faster we will get done. Any time you can give would be appreciated.
To sign up as a volunteer please visit the City of Sierra Madre's website. All of the race related volunteers opportunities can be found there. If you have any questions please contact Kyle Schnurr with the City of Sierra Madre at email@example.com.
Kids’ Fun Run – Saturday, May 24 at 7:45am
One of the missions the MWTR Committee has is to promote fitness and wellness in our community, for all ages. To that end, we will hold the 9th annual Kids’ Fun Run on Saturday, May 24, at 7:45am, immediately following the start of the adults’ race. The event is free to register your kids from 3 to 12 years of age. Two different distances will be offered, using the same start and finish line us older guys will be using. The first 250 youth to sign up will receive a T-shirt featuring the artwork of Peyton Thomas, the 2014 Kid's T-shirt Design Contest Winner.
Registration can be done during the Pasta Dinner on Friday, May 23rd from 5:30-7:00pm or the morning of the race on Saturday, May 24 from 7:00am until race start. All participants must complete a waiver at the registration table prior to participating.
