On June 1, 2007, the Sierra Madre Fire Department began the city's first Paramedic EMS Service, which operates in conjunction with fire department personnel. The Sierra Madre Fire Department responded to over 800 calls per year for the last three years; 70% of these calls are emergency medical related.
Our emergency medical providers are on duty for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with two State of California licensed – Los Angeles County Accredited Paramedics per Los Angeles County Department of Health Services requirements. In addition to the two responding paramedics, a fire engine responds on every medical call with a minimum of three trained Emergency Medical Technicians. Our primary responding rescue ambulance is staffed by two paramedics and is fully equipped with advanced life support equipment.
Prepare for a Medical Emergency - File of Life Packets Available
Medical emergencies are almost always stressful for the patient and everyone in the patient’s household. The time to assemble important medical information is before the medical emergency occurs rather than during the actual medical crisis. Medical information assembled in a period of calm is likely to be more accurate and more thorough than information assembled in a moment of crisis.
The File of Life program enables Sierra Madre residents to compile important medical information into one complete packet and make it available to the local paramedics in case of a medical emergency. The information is stored in a plastic envelope in the resident’s refrigerator, and a decal on the resident’s front window alerts EMS personnel that the information is available on the premises.
File of Life Packets, made possible by the Senior Community Commission, can be obtained free of charge at the Hart Park House Senior Center or Sierra Madre Fire Department. Paramedic Subscription Program
Sierra Madre Lifesavers Paramedic Subscription Program is an official program offered by the City of Sierra Madre which offsets the cost of emergency medical responses. The membership program is designed as an alternative to paying higher direct fees for paramedic and ambulance services. This annual membership program is available to residents of Sierra Madre for a yearly fee of $30. The membership fee covers co-payments for emergency medical services provided to you by the Sierra Madre Fire Department that most insurance plans and Medicare and Medi-Cal require you to pay. Your subscription will perform similar to a secondary insurance plan, with no out-of-pocket cost to you.
- You must be a Resident of the City of Sierra Madre
- If you have insurance, Medicare/MediCal, etc., your enrollment fee covers any deductible or co-payment.
- It is not necessary to have insurance to participate in the program
- Membership coverage is one year
- All memberships expire June 30th of each year
