  Public Safety Measure F
space

The proceeds of the special tax are to be used for essential fire, emergency medical and police services as follows:

  • 29% for contract paramedic services
  • 16% for equipment replacement for the volunteer fire department
  • 26% to improve fire department emergency response times & training
  • 29% for improved police officer retention and recruitment
For approximately $20 a month for the average single family residence, the City will be able to collect the funds needed for public safety improvements, which includes the replacement of fire equipment to support our volunteer firefighters, increased daytime personnel to improve fire and emergency response times, a comprehensive training program for our volunteers that meets industry standards, and migration from Basic Life Support (BLS/EMTs) to Advanced Life Support (ALS). ALS, also known as paramedic service will provide several advantages to the residents and business of Sierra Madre. For example, paramedic treatments and assessments are often the same treatments and assessments a patient gets in the emergency room. Unlike BLS/EMTs, paramedics have the ability to provide on-site rapid treatments designed to stabilize and treat a patient prior to or during transport. These services are considered life-saving and are currently not provided to the residents and businesses of Sierra Madre, and Sierra Madre is the only City in Los Angeles County without ALS. In summary paramedic service, reduced response times, adequate fire equipment, fully trained firefighters, and qualified police officers save lives.

Residents of Sierra Madre will have the opportunity to vote on Measure F this coming November 8, 2005.
