POSITION
Under direct supervision of the Deputy Director or Associate Librarian, provides specialized library support services requiring use of the computer operated Millennium library information system.
THE CITY
The City of Sierra Madre with a population of approximately 11,100, is a unique village located in Los Angeles County, at the base of the San Gabriel Valley Mountains. The City is a full service municipality operating under the Council/Manager form of government, with 65 full-time employees assigned to eight operating departments. The library department has 19 positions (11 full time equivalent employees), and a 60,000 item collection. The dedicated City staff provides excellent service to the community. The City was incorporated in 1907 as a general law city. It has its own water department, library, police department, volunteer fire department and newly formed paramedic program.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Performs circulation duties by communicating clearly with library patrons to: create new and update existing accounts, check out and receive books and other items, answer questions regarding library fines and fees, calculates fines and fees, collects money, and completes required documentation;
- Performs opening and closing procedures;
- Assists patrons in use of computers, microfiche, reader-printer, etc.; retrieves requested reading and research materials; acts as an information source about library events and programs and other general information;
- Assists in implementing public programs for adults, teens and children;
- Assists with the physical processing of newly acquired materials such as property stamping, security tags, attaching call number labels and barcodes and covering.
- Sorts, packs and unpacks materials going to and returning from commercial binders, verifying bindery shipping and receiving records.
- Sorts and files materials in the Archives;
- Under supervision, performs copy cataloging;
- Performs office duties as assigned;
- Attends and participates in staff meetings;
- Performs other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate will have a Library Technology Certificate with one-year of public library experience or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
