Sierra Madre Public Library invites you to benefit from our varied services:
Browse through a diverse collection of materials for use inside the Library or check them out. Well-trained staff consider popularity, published reviews and patron requests while selecting books, magazines, audiobooks, videos, DVDs, music CDs, large-print, and electronic resources. Look for library materials by using our online catalog.
If you need help finding information or materials please don't hesitate to ask Library staff at the service desks, over the phone, or via our email reference service. Our goal is to provide excellent services to the public; no question is too large, or too small.
Computers, complete with Internet access, word processing and games for children are available for public use. Access to well chosen Internet sites and state-of-the-art online resources, provides 24/7 access to information. Specialized technology staff monitors, and maintains these automated services, provided by a congressionally-directed grant administered by the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
Free ongoing public programs include Preschool Storyhour, Summer Reading Club for children and for adults, Teen Book Club, Adult Computer Classes, and Travelers & Collectors (our annual slide/narrative travel series). Quality readings, concerts, discussion groups, writing workshops, and other events as well are planned and publicized by Library staff and volunteers.
Explore local history at the Sierra Madre Historical Archives housed in the Library! Expert staff collects local historical and cultural memorabilia for public information and scholarly research, organizing, preserving, exhibiting materials, and assisting patrons who would like to use this special collection, designed "to preserve Sierra Madre history for generations."
Library services are expanded through participation in the Southern California Library Cooperative (SCLC), www.socallibraries.org, an association of 45 independent city and special district public libraries located in the Los Angeles and Orange County areas which have agreed to cooperate in providing library service to the residents of all participating jurisdictions. SCLC provides member libraries a resource-sharing network and a means for enhancing the level and diversity of resources available to library users. There is strength in numbers! |
