Public Libraries in California are governed by the California Education Code. Accordingly, it is the responsibility of the Library Board of Trustees to adopt library policies and advise the City Council.

Reserves Patrons may reserve Library materials at the front desk or by calling the Library, or patrons may make their own reserves on any of the library public computers. Library staff will call patron when the item is available. There is a $1 per-item charge for this service at check out.
Interlibrary Loan Patrons may request materials from other libraries through "ILL" by filling out a request form at the front desk. There is a $2 per-item charge for this service at that time, and patron may be asked to pay for postage. Requests are usually filled within two weeks.
Loan Periods Most library items are checked out for a three-week loan period and can be renewed one time for three additional weeks.
Exceptions:
- DVD's and Videos 7 day loan period; one renewal
- Teacher privileges 6 week loan period; no renewal
- Vacation privileges 6 week loan period; no renewal
- Slide projector overnight; refundable deposit and fee required
- Screen overnight; refundable deposit and fee required
Overdue, Lost, or Damaged Items
- Overdue fines are 25 cents per day -- except for videos, DVDs, and "Speed Reads" which are $1 per day per item. Maximum fine is $10 per item.
- Please respond to overdue notices from the Library. If you feel the notice is incorrect or if you have questions, please call (626)355-7186.
- Borrowing privileges may be suspended if there are overdue items or unpaid charges on a library card account.
- Lost or damaged items are billed at replacement cost as well as a $7 processing fee per item.
