Mayor Capoccia

John CapocciaMayor John Capoccia was first elected to the City Council in 2012 and served as Mayor of Sierra Madre from 2015 - 2016. In April 2016, Council Member Capoccia was re-elected to serve a second term. In February 2020, Mayor Capoccia was appointed to serve another term as Mayor. He has served on the Park and Recreation Commission (now Community Services Commission), and has volunteered on the General Plan Steering and Youth Master Plan committees, served on the Little League Board of Directors, and as President of the Pony Baseball League. Most recently he was Board Member of the Sierra Madre Community Foundation.

John and his wife Marta moved to their Sierra Madre home on West Highland Avenue in 1983 where they’ve raised their three children Lauren, Joseph, and Susan.

John retired in 2011 from AT&T, where he held engineering, managerial, and leadership positions over his 27 year career. John earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from California State University, Los Angeles, and is a Certified Project Management Professional (PMP®).

John is an avid tennis player and all-around outdoors enthusiast, and enjoys running the Mt. Wilson and Bailey Canyon trails, cycling, backpacking and fishing. He also enjoys working on his vintage BMWs. His favorite City-Sponsored event is the Mt. Wilson Trail race.

Mayor Pro Tem Capoccia currently represents Sierra Madre on the San Gabriel Valley Mosquito and Vector Control and at the San Gabriel Valley Council of Governments.
