Policies and Training Materials (SB978)

Senate Bill 978, in effect since January 1, 2020, mandates that local law enforcement agencies and the Commission of Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) make their current standards, policies, practices, operating procedures, and educational and training materials available online. The goal is to enhance public understanding of law enforcement procedures, foster transparency, cultivate community trust, and simplify access to information, thereby reducing the necessity for individual California Public Records Act (CPRA) requests.

The Sierra Madre Police Department fulfills this obligation by ensuring that its policy manual is accessible on its website. To develop and update our policies, the Sierra Madre Police Department partners with Lexipol, a platform grounded in constitutional law and a "best practice" approach widely embraced by law enforcement agencies across California.

Disclaimer: The Sierra Madre Police Department’s policy manual is current as of the indicated date. However, it remains a living document subject to frequent revisions. Changes in laws, court rulings, City Council policies, methodologies, and other factors necessitate continual review, prompting revisions as necessary and appropriate. As updates occur, the most recent policies will be promptly posted on our website.
